Emirates ID Card English Website, Registration Guide and Software Download

If you’re planning to move to Dubai or live here and still haven’t heard about the compulsory Emirates ID / Emirates Identity Card that all residents of Dubai and the UAE need to obtain, please read carefully… The official website of the Emirates Identity Authority states:

As per the law of the Population Registry and the Identity Card Program, all nationals and legal residents of the UAE whose age above 15 are compelled to obtain the Identity Card. The law of the Population Registry Identity Card Program stipulates that it is required for all Government, Semi- Government and private authorities to adopt the new ID cards being an approved and unified identification document used to identify and prove the individuals identity in all their governmental and non-governmental transactions. Furthermore, the law stipulates that a specific time was given to obtain the new ID cards otherwise no services will be rendered for those who do not obtain the Identity Card thereafter wether it’s elctronic or Non elctronic services

So what is the registration process for the Emirates ID Card?

1. Fill in a registration form at the printing centers available at the registration offices of Emirates Identity Authority or Emirates Post Centers at a cost of AED 40 or free of charge through the official Emirates ID Website, which can be found at www.emiratesid.ae

2. Attend personally at a registration office with the application form, valid original passport, and the following documents: UAE Nationals: Family Book / Residents: Valid Residency / GCC Citizens: one of these documents (valid work certificate, or attested and valid lease / ownership contract). Note: 2-year Younger children: bringing them to the registration office along with 2 Personal Photos (5.5 X4.5 size, light-blue Background)

Most people have had problems filling in the online registration form due to the slow speed of the servers and site. The Emirates ID Authority has recently introduced a free offline software applicants can use to fill our their Emirates ID application and then print out to bring in… This software is completely free and can be downloaded from various links. Here are a few official Emirates ID software download links:

Registration fees for the Emirates ID Card
  • UAE Nationals: 100 AED registration fees and 20 AED Card delivery fees (ID Card valid for 5 years, as for children’s they must renew the ID Card once they become 15 years old)
  • Nationals with welfare: Free of charge, Proof of receiving welfare is required
  • Residents: 100 AED registration fees against each valid year in his/her residency permit and 20 AED Card delivery fees (ID Card expiry date linked to residency expiry date)
  • Residents from the GCC: 100 AED registration fees for each year requested by the applicant (5 years are the maximum duration allowed ex. 500 AED) and 20 AED Card delivery fees (ID Card expiry date linked to number of years selected)
  • All children below 15 years: Regardless of nationality the registration in the population register is mandatory and free, but issuing the ID Card is optional for 50 AED and 20 AED Card delivery fees (ID Card expiry rules, and as specify above and according to nationality)
